As I mentioned, I work about three four blocks from the bridge on the University of Minnesota campus. I took my time coming in to work this morning. I was on my bicycle and traffic was eerily light. Everyone seemed to be driving slower. A utility truck followed me for a quarter-mile at 12 m.p.h., not wanting to pass me on the parkway. A little later, a second car did the same.
I avoided looking at the river until my lunch break. All day long dozens of people have been mulling up and down River Road, catching glimpses through the trees. There are police everywhere and not much to see at street level.
My familiarity with campus led my to an adjacent building where I knew I could get a view, that the door to the rooftop was open was a complete surprise. I was able to take a few photos, though I’m not sure why I did. It almost felt like I wasn’t looking at all, rather snapping photos in case I wanted to look later.
